FRIDAY 30 JUNE 2023
15:30 – 17:00
Bharata Natyam is mostly a theatrical dance. The dancer is called upon to transform into a fairy-tale dancer and narrate the exploits and sufferings of the ancestors, who are symbols of the inner world. Narrating the expression of feelings is called abhinaya. The dancer discovers his means of expression, in silence.
In Indian dance there is no verbal action, so the dancer plays two or three characters at the same time, alternating facial expressions, body movements and moods. We could say that the dancer’s body turns into a laboratory of ideas, emotions and images.
