Jill Otter

Based in Quebec, Canada, Jill began her journey with bellydance and then fusion in 2006. She was quickly drawn to Indian dances and studied bharata natyam for a few years, visited odissi for a while, then kathak with Kinga Malec in 2021 and 2022. Apart from classical, bollywood and folkloric styles particularly attract her and she enjoys rajasthani (Kalbeliya), garba and bhangra. She also directed an amateur folk troupe “Desi Danse” between 2016 and 2020.

In 2013, she began teaching Bollywood at Studio Danse Mirage and then at various institutions and events. Her students particularly appreciate her versatility, her positive approach and her imagination. As a soloist, Jill is recognized for her precise, original and expressive performances. At international competitions, she won first place in professional solo and public choice at the Digital Dance Collective in 2020 and then the gold medal in professional solo at the Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival of Athens in 2024.

In addition to Indian dances, Jill obtained her Fat Chance Bellydance® Style teacher certification in 2019 in San Francisco. She also teaches and performs neobellydance fusion frequently and was a fusion guest judge at Raks Quebec 2018 for the provincial belly dance competitions. Currently, she is part of the Kateya troupe and a member of the organizing committee for Tribalement Vôtre – Tribally Yours fusion festival in Quebec.
