9th “Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival”
Under the Auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO), the City of Athens, and the International Dance Council (CID)
30th June – 2nd July 2023 in Athens, Greece

PRESS RELEASE

With a lot of festivities, with artists and audience dancing on the stage of the historic Dora Stratou Theatre, the 9th Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival was concluded with the participation of artists and contestants from 20 countries. The Festival started with dance workshops on the morning of Friday 30 June 2023 and continued with fun and dancing at the welcome party held at MACAW Beach Bar on the “Sunshine Coast”.

In the workshops held on Saturday and Sunday there was excitement as with their wonderful choreographies, the artists gave their best self and the participants from all over the world applauded their love for dance as well as their professionalism.

In the two Mega Shows of the Festival (Saturday and Sunday), the audience had the opportunity to enjoy on stage inspired choreographies by internationally renowned dancers and choreographers from all over the world, but also to watch the 8th International Bollywood Dance Competition with high-level entries contestants.

The show was “stolen” by the 1st Bollywood Dance Academy Greece with the unique choreographies of the founder and artistic director, Anna Dimitratou and the Indian creative manager, choreographer and dancer, Sumon Rudra, as well as Kinga Malec, Sneha Mistri, Krystal Chow, Sonia Tharani , Navjot Minhas, Amine Amoura, Mélodie Toussaint, Hassan Bolbol and Kleoniki Karachaliou with their endless fun and impeccable appearance.

But also the groups from Greece and abroad were applauded, after showing us that dance never ends and is constantly enriched with new trends and techniques. Cultural Centre “Caucasus” with Georgian Dances, Beyond Bollywood from Hong Kong, Bollybandits from Switzerland, Pepe and Maca from Spain, Indradance Academy from Romania, Indissy Group from France, Folk Dance “Enalia Gi” group with traditional Cypriot dances, the Fireflies Dance Crew (Gymnastics For All Team of GAS “Irini” Peristeri), the Chandrika Kathak Company from France, the BX Bhangra from Belgium, and the “AL AWDA” Dance Group of the Palestinian Community of Greece. The appearance of the Association of Greek Dances and Folklore Research “Greek Tradition” with dance teachers Mr. Vassilis Tsounis and Mrs. Efi Routis, who presented favorite Greek folk dances and “roused” the audience, was also amazing.

The Festival was honored with the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia in Greece Mrs. Darejan Mumladge who addressed the Festival, the deputy president of the Palestinian Community of Greece, Mrs. Maha-Wasfieh Zeineldin, Mr. Michalis Michaelidis (representative of the GNTO – Head of Division at Greek National Tourism Organization), the representative of the International Dance Council Mrs. Lambrini Raikou, the President of the Greek-Indian Society for Culture and Development Dr. Dimitrios Vassiliadis and Mr. Konstantinos Kalaitzis, the Secretary General of Cypriot Organizations Mr. Eleftherios Konstantinidis, Mr. Syed Mohammad Jamil and many other official guests.

The organizations the “Child’s Voice” (Association for the Support of Children with Cancer), the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and WWF Greece were also present at the Festival.
